Wedding Day Disaster!

Current Mood: hopeful
Well, I am officially 17 wks pregnant today. At 15wks and 2 days, which was my WEDDING day (Aug. 28th 2007), I had my hair done, came home to get in my dress, and found blood everywhere! Off the the ER I went, and needless to say, the wedding was canceled. At the Emergency Room, they couldn't explain the bleeding, but did an ultrasound where I saw the baby moving and heard the heartbeat for the first time. Doc said the baby looked great but to take it easy, cause she couldn't promise that I wasn't in the early stages of having a late miscarriage. Got home around midnight ... couldn't fall asleep til 7am cause I was so scared, then woke up at 9am (2 WHOLE HOURS of sleep makes for a GREAT bride!) to try the "getting married" thing again ... LOL So off to the courthouse we went, got married, and all is well. What a story for the wedding album and baby book, huh? I wish they could have found out the sex of the baby, but the baby was moving too much for them to get a good look.

I have a genetic condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome or EDS, the vascular type, which can cause brain aneurysms, bleeding disorders, and miscarriages from spontaneous rupture of the membranes, and cervical incompetence. It is very dangerous for me to be pregnant. Docs won't let me have epidurals (they are worried the epidural site wouldn't heal and I could get spinal meningitis), so the two daughters I have right now, were all drug free deliveries. OUCH! Doctors are scared to touch me with a 100 ft pole, and are scared to make any decisions for me (like tying my tubes - which would be safer for me than getting pregnant again - but they still refuse cause they are scared). It is very frustrating trying to get healthcare, and being told I am a hypochondriac because I have so many medical problems that they can't PHYSICALLY SEE, from the Ehlers. If anyone out there has this rare syndrome, please contact me. It would be great to talk to other people that understand what I am going through.

Well I guess that is all for now ... I am sure I will have more to write about later. I have a VERY eventful life, with my husband being military, he is also younger than me which creates tension sometimes; a new marriage, 2 kids from a previous relationship that we are trying to blend into one new family, including the new baby that is from my new husband. Whew, the chaos I have in my life ... LOL

Hi there . I have EDS Type 3 and I'm going to give you two links that will be helpful. The first is the National EDS group EDNF. They have a wonderful bulletin board (you will need to become a member) and if I recall they have an OB/GYN section. They also have local support groups throughout the US. http://www.ednf.org

The other is a North American free Yahoo mailing list called CEDA - just join and read the postings. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/ceda/

I just started working on an EDS newsletter for LJ - it is here: http://edsalert.livejournal.com
I'll add your request for people to contact you to the newsletter

Thanks

Thanks so much. I normally go to the ednf.org site, but never heard of the mailing list. Thanks again. Feel free to give me an add!

Hi Trina
I have ehlers danlos too. I used implanol as a birth control. It is a stick that is implanted subdermal in your arm. It then realeases a little hormone all the time so you wont have to take pills every day. I belive that it works for 3 years before you will have to change it. Ofcause it leaves scars on people like us, but they are very small. I am not sure if it would be a good idea with vascular eds, but you can ask your doctor about that.Any way it worked for me.... now my husband got his tubes cut, so i dont have to use anything any more, as my body didn't like the hormones very much.
best of luck Sif

Thanks

I will mention that to my doctor and see what they say. I can handle a small scar like that, heck I get huge scars just cause I blink it seems like, so I may as well get one for a good reason ... LOL I don't think that would cause a problem with the VEDS but will have to ask. Docs don't want me taking birth control with horomones, at least not my last doc. Will discuss everything with my new one and see what she has to say. Thanks again!
